City Removes Horse Barns from the Southeast Greenway

Now that the City of Santa Rosa owns the property, we want to keep you updated as the city and volunteers work to keep the property safe and well-maintained.

Two horse barns were taken down on March 8 by City of Santa Rosa employees in an effort to make the property safer. When CalTrans owned the property, they sublet a segment of the land for horses, and that resulted in the installation of the structures and fencing. Clearing the land is a first step to prepare the property for master planning and the eventual build out of a public park. Pictured here are the barns mid February.

Here is how the site looked on March 8. City workers worked hard and efficiently to get the job done, stacking materials neatly and saving what they could for possible reuse or recycling. It was an impressive work party!

Finally, here is the property on March 10 completely cleared of the structures. At some point the fences will also be removed to make way for bike and pedestrian paths. It’s going to offer the community a beautiful place to walk and ride.
