A Wild and Wonderful Gift to Our Community
On Sunday, June 4th, Howarth Park was transformed into a kid’s wonderland as Sonoma Land Trust and the Southeast Greenway Campaign partnered to bring Child in the Wild – a day of fun-filled activities for children and their families.
The entertainment lineup was a who’s who of local talent that honored wide-ranging diversity as Pomo dancers welcomed everyone to a sunny afternoon on the lawn. The Chinese Association Lion dancers – and the Dragon dancers later in the afternoon – enthralled everyone as they slowly worked their way around the circle of spectators with drumbeats in sync with every move and dramatization.
Environmental songs and entertainment provided the little ones with a fun way to participate, and the day was wrapped up with dramatic costumes and dances provided by Danza Xantotl.
The Greenway Partners all offered fun activities for kids, with a jumpy house and free face painting being clear winners. Classroom Safari was a big draw as kids got a thrill from getting to meet hedgehogs, sloths, servals, and more up close.
The Greenway Campaign’s booth was buzzing as we raffled off a beautiful Specialized Bike, provided space for kids to color Greenway flora and fauna, and turned the wheel of fortune to give away over 450 Greenway-related prizes.
Excitement is building as the acquisition of the Greenway property draws closer. Child in the Wild was our way to reach out to families and explore possibilities of what the Greenway could offer them. It was a pleasure to partner with Sonoma Land Trust in providing this wonderful gift to our community. We hope to see everyone there again next year!
