Greenway Land Transfers to the City of Santa Rosa
On May 19, 2024, the California Transportation Commission approved the sale of the land owned by Caltrans and known as the Southeast Greenway to the city of Santa Rosa. Escrow will close mid-summer. Stay tuned for information about an opening celebration.
Now that our new “Central Park” is becoming a reality, you may be wondering about the next steps. The Southeast Greenway is a major asset that the entire city will be able to use. Since it is such a large project, we understand that it affects residents of the city at a neighborhood level. This is one of the key reasons to conduct a planning study. The Greenway creates new opportunities for economic development, transportation and wildlife corridors, and access to nature. The planning study will explore how these opportunities can support the needs of residents, community organizations, and local businesses.
After the acquisition, Santa Rosa’s Recreation and Parks Department will lead a Park Master Planning Process. Community members will have ample opportunity to express their desires for the future Southeast Greenway project. The plan will serve as the roadmap for developing the park to best serve the community’s needs.
This is an opportunity for all of us to get involved in envisioning our new Greenway. Join us on a Greenway walk, share the good news with your friends, visit the Southeast Greenway website, and volunteer. We look forward to hearing your ideas!
